Approach
Nicola’s approach pays attention to her clients needs, taste and style and is sensitive to the unique nature of each location. Nicola draws on her diverse design skills and plant knowledge to create a garden that is distinctive and personal .
Services
Artemisia Studio provides a full range of services from initial consultation through to contract management. Depending on the nature of your project you may need the full range of services or a selection of services to meet your needs. Every garden and client brief is unique and a fee proposal is tailored to reflect this.
Initial consultation
An initial consultation meeting and site visit where we discuss your needs, inspiration and ideas and refine your garden design brief.
Garden measurements
Measurements are undertaken by Nicola or if the garden is large or complex by a qualified surveyor. This allows boundaries, building footprints and existing elements to be accurately mapped to inform the design. Once this is complete an analysis of the garden is undertaken and would include; soil survey, the sun’s path through the day, existing and potential views, how you use the garden, how your garden relates to your house such as views, connection and sun levels.
Concept
A concept plan is prepared for discussion and review. This stage forms the basis for the garden design.
Garden layout plan
Once the concept has been agreed, a garden layout plan is drawn up showing hard surfaces and soft planting areas and design features. A ‘mood board’ will be created to illustrate planting style and materials.
Planting plan and plant schedule
A planting plan can be developed alone or as part of the detailed design package. A plant list is prepared with consideration to aesthetic, site conditions and year-round interest. A planting plan shows the positions of plants and a plant schedule lists plant numbers and sizes for plant nursery orders.
Detailed design
Detailed design package provides the level of information required to cost and construct your garden. The information is used during the tender process and by contractors to construct your garden to a high standard. The following would be included in the detailed design package;
• Hard landscape plan
• Setting out drawings
• Landscape details such as paving, edging, tree pits and bespoke elements.
• Planting plan and plant schedule
• Specification
• Scope of works
• Lighting and furniture guidance
Tender management
The Detailed Design forms the tender documents which are sent to a selection of potential contractors. These tender documents are in sufficient detail to enable the tenders to be compared. We would then recommend which company to use to build the design.
Contract management
Artemisia Studio looks after the build process through to completion, so that the work follows the design and specification. Our work includes
• site meetings with the contractor
• site visits to look at quality
• dealing with issues that may arise during construction
• obtaining your approval to any design changes
• keeping you informed about progress
